The Malaysian State of Selangor, through its Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI Selangor), wrote its own history when it signed three joint undertakings in the field of ‘smart city’ development within just a day.
BARCELONA, Spain: Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor), the investment arm of the State of Selangor, finalised three joint undertakings with foreign companies on the first day of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona on Tuesday.
The signing of both agreements, held at the Expo’s Smart Selangor Pavilion, were witnessed by the Honourable Chief Minister of Selangor, YAB Amirudin Shari.
The Chief Executive Officer of MBI Selangor, YM Raja Shahreen Raja Othman, said the joint cooperation’s would help bring Selangor a step closer to becoming a premier smart state in ASEAN come 2025.
This is the first time ever that MBI Selangor inks three pacts at the same time within a day, lending credence to its effort and leading to acknowledgements from foreign companies and related authorities of Selangor’s pursuit to become a smart state.

“Our challenge is to ensure the people of Selangor benefit from these cooperation’s and any similar joint efforts that we may have in the future,” said Raja Shahreen.
Raja Shahreen explained the joint undertakings run parallel to the country’s newly launched “Shared Prosperity Vision 2030”, a 10-year goal to restructure Malaysia’s low-skill labour-intensive economy to a knowledge-based economy.
“With the State already having a head start with ’Smart Selangor’ initiative four years ago, we are ready to be part of the Vision in ensuring benefits for all, be it in creating opportunities in business, work and education.
SCEWC which is organised annually in Barcelona marks the biggest gathering of stakeholders in the field of smart city development. The Expo brings together government authorities, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, thinkers, researchers and innovators to find solutions to urban issues as well as the creation of opportunities for joint cooperation.
Smart Selangor Pavilion showcases participation from MBI Selangor subsidiaries namely KDEB Waste Management, SSDU Innovations, SMARTSEL and other state agencies including PKNS-SIC and Central Spectrum.
